Privacy Policy

This policy explains what solarpaybackcheck.com collects, why, who we pass it to, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
Who we are
solarpaybackcheck.com is operated by Techpillars Oy, a company registered in Finland. We are the controller of the personal data described here. We are an information and lead referral service. We do not install solar, we do not sell equipment, and we are not affiliated with any utility.

What we collect

We do not ask for, and you should not send us, your social security number, bank or card details, or any health information.
What we do with it
- Produce your estimate. Your ZIP code is sent to the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory's PVWatts service to look up typical weather for your area. Your name, email and phone are never sent there.
- Send you one confirmation email. It contains a link that confirms your address is real. It is the only email we send: no newsletter, no marketing, no drip sequence. If you ignore it, nothing happens and nothing else is sent.
- Check we can actually reach you. We look up whether your email domain accepts mail at all, and whether your phone number's area code and exchange are real. These are technical checks against public telephone and DNS records. We do not call or text you to test the number.
- Introduce you to solar companies, if you ticked the consent box. This is the point of the site and it is how we are paid.
- Improve the funnel. Which step people leave at, which adverts bring people who complete.
Who we share it with
Solar companies and lead networks. If you tick the consent box on step 3, we pass your name, email, phone number, ZIP code, the answers you gave, and your consent record to solar companies, or to networks that route enquiries to them, so they can contact you about a quote. We are paid for these introductions. Once a company receives your details it is a separate controller of that data and its own privacy policy applies to what it does next.
Service providers. Cloudflare hosts the site, runs the code, stores the database and answers our DNS lookups. NREL provides the weather model (no personal data sent). Our email provider sends the single confirmation message, and receives your email address and first name in order to do so.
Legal. Where we are required to disclose something by law, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
We do not sell your details to data brokers, advertising networks, or anyone else outside the process described above.
Your consent, and taking it back
You get your estimate without giving us any contact details. The contact form on step 3 is optional, and the consent box is never pre-ticked.
You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing privacy@solarpaybackcheck.com, or by replying STOP to any text message. Withdrawing consent stops future contact from us; you will need to contact any solar company that already has your details separately, and we will tell you who they are if you ask.
How long we keep it
- Incomplete estimates (you never reached step 3): 90 days, then deleted.
- Completed enquiries and their consent records: 5 years. US telemarketing rules require records of consent to be kept and produced on request, and this is the period our partners work to.
- Aggregate analytics: kept indefinitely, but it is counts, not people.
California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you live in California, this section is for you.
Categories we collect
- Identifiers — name, email address, telephone number, IP address, ZIP code.
- Commercial information — your average electricity spend and the answers you gave about your home.
- Internet or network activity — pages viewed on this site, browser user agent, the advert you arrived from.
- Geolocation data — approximate only, at the level of your ZIP code.
We collect these from you directly. We do not collect sensitive personal information as the CPRA defines it, and we do not use or disclose personal information for purposes other than those listed above.
Do we sell or share personal information?
Yes, in the sense the law means. When you tick the consent box, we pass your details to solar companies and are paid for doing so. Under the CCPA that counts as a "sale" of personal information, and passing advertising identifiers to measure adverts can count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising. We are telling you plainly rather than hiding behind the fact that you asked to be contacted.
We have not sold or shared the personal information of anyone we knew to be under 16.
Your rights
- Know what we have collected about you, where it came from, why, and who we disclosed it to.
- Delete what we hold, subject to the consent records we are legally required to keep.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not collect any, so there is nothing to limit).
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. We will not degrade your estimate or charge you for asking.
How to exercise them
Email privacy@solarpaybackcheck.com with the request you are making. Put "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" in the subject line for an opt-out. We will need to verify you, which normally means confirming the email address or phone number you gave us. We respond within 45 days and will tell you if we need a 45-day extension.
An authorised agent may act for you if they provide your written permission and we can verify it with you directly.
UK and EU residents (GDPR)
This site is aimed at consumers in the United States. If you are in the UK or the EU and have used it anyway, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, and object to our processing of your data, and to complain to your national supervisory authority.
Our legal basis is your consent for the contact form and our legitimate interest in operating and measuring the site for the rest. Our registered contact for these requests is:

Finland's supervisory authority is the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (Tietosuojavaltuutetun toimisto).
Email tracking
The confirmation email contains no tracking pixel and no open tracking. The only thing it records is whether you clicked the confirmation link.
Cookies
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies to browse this site. Our page analytics are cookieless. If you complete an enquiry, a Google Ads conversion tag loads on that final screen only, so that we can tell which adverts produced an enquiry. That tag may set a cookie at that point. Nothing loads it beforehand, and it never loads for anyone who does not complete the form.
Children
This site is not for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has submitted details, email us and we will delete them.
Security
Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored on Cloudflare infrastructure with access limited to the people who operate the site. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you and the relevant regulator if a breach affects you.
Changes
If we change this policy we update the date at the top. Material changes to how we share your data will not be applied retroactively to enquiries already submitted.
